UBNC kicked off with a bang on the 2nd September, with UBNC girls travelling from all over the country to return to Bristol and get ready for the upcoming season. Find out what went on during preseason, how trials played out and what’s happening this week in UBNC...
WHAT WE DID DURING PRESEASON
Preseason involved a variety of tough training sessions, combining fitness with skill practise to prepare us fully for the season ahead. Bristol Uni Sport provided us with a wonderful PT, Gareth, who gave us well-structured weight sessions and relentless fitness routines, enabling us to out run our opposition this year. Alongside these conditioning sessions, we had technical training, where we focused on perfecting fundamentals and integrating them into match play. It was physically and mentally challenging, but the hard work is already starting to pay off. Our bodies felt the pain from training so hard but we made sure to stay injury free, with exercises such as stretching and foam rolling, in order to push ourselves further.
We trained for up to 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, with Wednesdays off to relax and socialise. Socials included brunch, watching the rugby 1s game in the sunshine and a few entertaining trips to Mbargos. Check out @bristol_netball on Instagram to see the preseason highlight and watch some of the videos from training and socials.
We were delighted to welcome 10 freshers to preseason, making it the first proper year of inviting and hosting freshers before the season starts. They stayed with older members and attended all sessions and socials, meaning they had already made some new friends before starting university. We really enjoyed having them and are happy to say they are all now members of UBNC.
We introduced a special award in preseason called 'Red Hot Play of the Day' and here's some of the girls that won this award for some super moves and outstanding play...
'GIVE IT A GO' AND TRIALS
There were over 500 sign-ups for netball during freshers fair this year, with a lot of talent discovered from our ‘Give It A Go’ sessions; they were a huge success in selecting freshers to join UBNC. We have 39 freshers joining a team this year with a lot more taking part in social netball.
We had 1s&2s, 3s&4s and 5s,6s,7s&development trails spread out throughout last week. There was some amazing play seen by our coaches, who selected the teams ready for the matches this week. Finalising teams will take up until the 5th week of games, so watch out for a teams blog post very soon.
Congratulations to all the girls who have gained a place in UBNC!
